Diplomacy
It’s a kindness to be able to surround yourself with like-minded individuals who respect and appreciate your contributions to the conference. This extends further than just maintaining a credible level of respect towards your fellow delegates but also towards other organizing members, faculty advisers, and all others present or working in the venue. Your attitude can end up being a direct representation of both yourself and your school or university; professionalism and being friendly are prized attributes in our eyes. While a delegates’ etiquette within a committee is one aspect of this evaluation, we also take careful consideration of how well one can adhere to the procedural functions of the committee. Delegates will be familiar with the usage of Points and Motions; we look strongly upon those who utilize them effectively because progress is inherently dictated by how they’re used. Rapporteurs will be keeping a close eye on delegates who consistently lead the charge with motions for varying situations within sessions.
The last fundamental component of Diplomacy falls under delegates and their capacity for teamwork and coordination. Each topic agenda will lead up to the formation of a resolution that summarizes the activities of the committee and mandates actions on part of the committee as a whole. With how this conference has been set up, the finalization and voting of resolutions will provide the committee with the opportunity to see their work deliberated on by the Security Council. While committees will vote for the passing of any resolution, the final step towards its complete acceptance will be in sending any passed resolution(s) to the Security Council. A vote will be taken by them whereby a resolutions passing or rejection is reported, by the Press Corp, to the submitting committee. It’s here that we place particular emphasis on resolution writing because the passing of any resolutions can have external impacts on the conference as a whole.
