The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was created in 1965 as the UN’s global development network. Its mission is to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities by promoting sustainable development in more than 170 countries and territories. The UNDP provides technical and financial assistance to governments for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on key areas such as poverty reduction, democratic governance, climate change adaptation, and crisis prevention.
The UNDP’s role includes offering policy advice, implementing development projects, and facilitating global partnerships for development. It works closely with local governments and communities to ensure that development efforts are inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and gender-sensitive. The UNDP is also instrumental in mobilizing resources for development and providing expertise in areas such as governance, rule of law, and disaster response.
